September 21 2014 – I’m throwing coins today to determine which of my fifty vague half-baked ideas I should start working on next, wonder what will win. I’d love to know more about how other artists go about this – do you always know what you want to work on next? Do you agonize over what direction to take with each new piece? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
This week’s palette is still warm but leaning on autumn shades, and with a strong retro vibe inspired by this week’s Celandine Art Crush, Riikka Sormunen. I’d love to see this applied to some folksy florals or a papercut-style landscape scene.
This week’s art crush is Helsinki based Finnish illustrator Riikka Sormunen. I’m in love with her retro palettes, her flat but expressive style, and the tons of charming organic patterns she works into each illustration. You can find more of her work on her website. You can also check out her site’s sketchbook page and see her pieces in progress, which is something I always love to look at.
